Great company, great coffee, great food and fantastic weather made all the more miraculous because it was forecast to rain all day. But it didn't! Instead, the sun shone right from the morning into the wee hours of the evening and nothing could have started it better than heading off to brunch at Muj Salek Kavy, otherwise known as My Cup of Coffee. What came about was a lively discussion on our most beloved and hated TV shows and movies, and why the five out of six of us never watched Apocalypse Now.
Earlier in the week, a friend of mine was lamenting on how she missed having brunch every Sunday. Coming from Canada, brunch was not just a tradition, it is programmed into her DNA - as it is in mine (anything to do with food gets programmed into my DNA faster than lightning striking a TV tower). Prague, while fantastic for many things, has not caught up on the breakfast/brunch scene yet and there are only a few places that offer all day (edible)breakfasts and desserts. So without hesitating, I told her I knew this great place called Muj Salek Kavy and without hesitating, I organised 5 of my friends to show up there this morning. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. Oh yes, because I'm a numbskull.
Anyway, we ordered a variety of coffees (I had a smashing flat white that omg, I'm getting an orgasm just thinking about it), English breakfasts, Eggs Benedict, cheese straws with a selection of sauces, BLT sandwiches and a selection of fruit drinks. The food is organic, fresh, and the meat specially selected and prepared at a farm. They even tell you the breed of pigs on the menu! While we were waiting for our fine meals to arrive, we saw and I swear this, a perfect double of Zachary Quinto walk into the cafe. He was slightly slimmer and shorter but boy did he look like Spock in every facial detail. It was amazing! And of course, his appearance sparked the birth of our discussions for the rest of our 3 hour brunch.
The breakdown of it goes like this:
Lost - it was a f"*king dream! A mess.
Alias - pretty much was Lost.
Firefly - was what Lost and Alias should have aspired to.
Serenity - someone at the table dropped a huge spoiler.
Dexter - no no, don't go there (referring to the last 2 seasons).
Twin Peaks - great movie about a shitty plot
Game of Thrones - there's a lesson in this. Readers must remain detached from the characters. Seriously, I felt nothing when Rob Stark died. NOTHING. Yawwwn. I haven't read the books yet and I'm choosing not to. I wanna be surprised. And George Martin better leave Danaerys alone!
Doctor Who - Horror of horrors, 4 of us had not seen the original created in 1963. I'm still not going to.
Prometheus - who the f*&k goes cooey cooey over an alien snake for the first time? Honestly! And yes, this is apparently the prequel to Aliens.
Godfather 1, 2 and 3: Good, okay, not okay. I've committed the ultimate sin. I haven't watched any of them. I don't like mafia movies.
Apocalypse Now - literally a long silence at the table. 4 out of the 6 of us have not seen it. I have an excuse - I don't like war movies in addition to mafia ones.
Result? Despite going on about TV shows and movies for 3 hours, we are not movie nuts. And we now have homework - watch Apocalypse Now before our next brunch gathering.
