Yesterday was a public holiday. Independent Czechoslovak State Day to be exact - the day when Czechoslovak came into being on October 28th, 1918. Except it is no longer Czechoslovakia but two separate countries, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. So why am I showing pictures of what obviously has nothing to do with this holiday? Easy. While I was sleeping away my holiday, a very much loved member of my family was cavorting through the Solomon Islands and sending me pictures of dancing dolphins and his views on the simple, graceful and most unfortunate flying fish. None of it was to make me envious of course.
I have to admit, I've been blessed with fantastic weekends in the last few weeks. Usually, as far as they go, weekends are for catching up on my housework, doing my grocery shopping, savouring my market bought cappuccino and pastries, strolling around the city and basically just relaxing. Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining at all. I'm a loner and doing activities on my own suit me just perfectly. I even have lonely, unfriendly hobbies like er hm, reading, knitting, watching TV shows and talking to myself. Hey - I like my own company!
Well, here it is. My paperback cover for Ice Phoenix. A big special thank you to Paris Galanis aka Silinde Ar-Feiniel who did such a great job on it! He looked into my mind and knew exactly what I wanted. I couldn't have asked for anything more - this is it! :)
Sometimes I wonder what an author's life is like, beyond the days and nights of constant writing and jotting down of ideas, of quotes they've just heard or restructuring a plot in their heads. I guess what I envisioned is not far off the mark but I thought I'd give readers a small insight into mine. While writing this, I will honestly tell you that all I'm thinking about at this moment is, how I'm dying to have a pot of curry crab! Sorry if that makes me seem I care less about you - but, it's crab!
Great company, great coffee, great food and fantastic weather made all the more miraculous because it was forecast to rain all day. But it didn't! Instead, the sun shone right from the morning into the wee hours of the evening and nothing could have started it better than heading off to brunch at Muj Salek Kavy, otherwise known as My Cup of Coffee. What came about was a lively discussion on our most beloved and hated TV shows and movies, and why the five out of six of us never watched Apocalypse Now.
